ABOUT
Senior iOS Development, with an executive’s perspective.
I'm Scott Brower, founder of AppSwage — a senior iOS developer building native apps for founders, startups, and enterprises.
Most senior iOS developers came up through engineering — I came up through both.
I've been writing software since I was very young, through college coursework, through hands-on development roles in my early IT career, and on iOS specifically since 2010, when I started building and self-publishing apps shortly after the App Store opened. In 2015, that work turned into a side practice taking on outside clients. In 2018, it became full-time.
What's unusual isn't the development background. It's the parallel one. Alongside the code, I spent more than a decade in VP-level IT and business leadership at companies like Activision Blizzard, Vertafore, and Adaptive Biotechnologies, running global technology programs, multi-million-dollar budgets, and teams supporting thousands of users and billions in revenue. Most senior developers haven't had that view. Most executives can't ship code.
That combination shapes everything I do now. Today I work solo, no agency, no handoffs, building native iOS apps for founders, startups, and enterprises. Across 15+ years and 150+ clients, my work has shipped to tens of millions of users on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.
But the technical track record is half of it. The other half is knowing that the best technical decision is rarely just a technical decision, and most apps that fail do so for reasons that have little to do with code. I work most often with non-technical founders, the ones who need a senior partner who can talk product, monetization, App Store strategy, and architecture in the same conversation.
THE NAME
A swage is a blacksmith's tool — used to shape hot metal with care and precision. AppSwage was named for that approach: hands-on, deliberate, every project shaped to fit. Apps aren't mass-produced here. They're forged.

Head of Business Systems & IT
Adaptive Biotechnologies
Led IT and business systems for a Seattle biotech company on a mission to bring an end to cancer. Brought structure to a fast-growing organization through its IPO and built the foundation for global enterprise systems — the kind of high-stakes work where the technology has to be invisible because the science can't wait on it.
Vice President, Enterprise Applications
Vertafore
Led a global team of IT professionals supporting a portfolio of on-premise and SaaS applications for the insurance industry — Oracle ERP, Salesforce CRM, Oracle HR, professional services, and data warehousing. The full enterprise business cycle, end-to-end.
Vice President, Global IT Applications
Activision Blizzard
Led global IT applications staff with internal and outsourced teams supporting one of the largest publishers in interactive entertainment — over $1B in annual revenue, products shipped worldwide. Responsibilities spanned ERP, CRM, warehousing, BI, and the systems integration following the $18B merger with Activision that formed Activision Blizzard.
